Project Overview

In recognition of their invaluable contributions to the wellbeing of the children of Jerusalem, American Charities for Palestine (ACP) presented the Spafford Children’s Center of Jerusalem (SCC) with a contribution of $5,000 on January 14, 2009.

The Spafford Children’s Center (SCC) was originally founded as the “American Colony of Jerusalem” by Horatio Spafford. Spafford came to Jerusalem from Chicago with a group of friends in 1881 and lived in the house now occupied by Spafford Children's Center.

Today, the Spafford Children’s Center is unique in offering an integrated and wide range of activities, including a medical centre, a psycho-social department, special education and diverse therapies for damaged and traumatized children. The benefit in the delivery of each of these services under the same roof is incalculable.

Project Status Report

In a letter of peace and goodwill, D. Jantien Dajani, the Medical Director of the SCC acknowledged her gratitude for ACP’s donation and expressed her hope that ACP donors will visit the center in the Old City.

She concluded by stating “We all hope and pray for peace and better times to come and that President Obama will prove to be a wise leader in these troubled times.” The funds donated will be used to help cover the administrative costs SCC incurs.

"To this end, the example of American Charities for Palestine (ACP), is illustrative. ACP works with the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) and other groups to improve the lives of Palestinians in the West Bank and Gaza."
